The KeyBEMO® ECO-GREEN ‘Nature Roof’ planted system is of the extensive type. That is, it is based on the formation of a low maintenance self-sustaining plant community growing on a thin lightweight substrate formulation and the systems capacity to retain an appropriate quantity of water are critical. Each of these criteria are tailored to the requirements of each particular roof. The Base layer is a combined water reservoir and drainage board. On this a layer of lightweight specially formulated growing substrate is laid. The vegetation or plant layer can by installed in a number of ways:

Pitch Limitations on Nature Roof Installation

We are confident that the nature roof system as described can be installed on roofs with pitches of up to 20°. Above this, battening or shearing force protection will need to be installed to ensure the stability of the substrate on the roof. In addition, for any roofs above 20° in pitch only the turf variant will be applicable. This is to ensure maximum substrate stability.
