KeyBEMO awarded RoSPA Gold Medal

GOLDMED_10_COLKeyBEMO is celebrating winning one of the prestigious RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards in 2010.

The Gold Medal (5 consecutive Golds) award will be presented at a ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, at the National Exhibition Centre, on Tuesday May 11. The ceremony will take place alongside Safety & Health Expo 2010, Europe’s leading annual health and safety exhibition.

The RoSPA Awards scheme is not only about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at work; it also encourages organisations to develop robust health and safety management systems.

David Rawlins, RoSPA’s awards manager, said: “KeyBEMO has shown commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others. Organisations which do this deserve to have such dedication recognised and that’s where the RoSPA Awards come in.”

“As well as there being clear ethical reasons and legal requirements for good and health and safety management, there is also a strong business case. RoSPA is delighted to publicly honour organisations which have demonstrated their work to improve performance in this sphere.”

The majority of awards are non-competitive and mark achievement which is graded at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Organisations maintaining high standards can win gold medals, Presidents Awards and Orders of Distinction.

Competitive awards go to the best entries in 23 individual industry sectors and there are special awards for workforce involvement, training, occupational health, environment management and the management of occupational road risk. There is also a trophy for the best organisation operating or based in Scotland. RoSPA’s top accolade is the Sir George Eagle Trophy.

The RoSPA Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2010 are sponsored by NEBOSH, the leading health and safety professional examining body.

This year, three days of award ceremonies will be held in Birmingham from May 11-13 and gala dinners will be hosted by Lord Jordan of Bournville, RoSPA President, Lord Hunt of Wirral, RoSPA Vice-President and Lord Brougham and Vaux, RoSPA Vice-President, for representatives of award-winning organisations. An award ceremony will also take place in Glasgow in September.
